Kissey Asplund
Under the radar
She's been described as Sweden's answer to Erykah Badu and, to be honest, that's a fair assessment. Like the Headwrapped One, the sound of this soulful songstress (of Swedish and Caribbean parentage) is steeped in hip hop, as reflected in her début album Plethora (R2), which was produced by Paris-based hip hop collective Papa Jazz Crew. If that comparison wasn't compelling enough, then there's Asplund's vocals which are reminiscent of Badu's voice (which, in turn, is similar to Billie Holiday's sound hey, it's a never-ending cycle).
