Jazz Re:freshed
Vol. 1

This compilation by London promoters Adam "Rock" Moses and Justin "TopRock" McKenzie is a studious snapshot of nu jazz and broken beat sounds, genres long snubbed by major labels. Without this album, where else would you hear Femi Temowo's poetic Wood And Things, the head-nodding broken beats of Kaidi Tatham or the psychedelic soul of Rebirth's Got Your Madness? And this being a double CD, there's more. Much more. The harmonious hip-hop of Motet's Angel, the offbeat originality of Green's Heavy, not to mention songs by Reel People and Brotherly. Two discs are indeed necessary to reflect the scope of this scene and do justice to a group of gifted musicians that would otherwise be criminally overlooked. If Moses and McKenzie intended to rejuvenate the world of jazz, they've succeeded with Jazz Re:freshed Vol. 1
